TitleFITTING GROUNDWATER MONITORING NETWORKS TO POLLUTION RISK CONDITIONS: A GIS PROCEDURE
AbstractMonitoring networks, aiming to analyse the space and time evolution of contaminant concentration in groundwater, could increase in efficiency when fitted to vulnerability assessment and pollution risk evaluation. In this study, carried out in a pilot area north of Rome (Italy), several relevant factors (hydrogeological setting, vulnerability, actual contamination levels) were analysed. The selection of the final network points (50) from the 121 candidate wells and springs was performed by means of a GIS procedure developed in three steps, aiming to choose among neighbours the water point most suitable to the objectives of the network.
