TitleThe interplay between mantle convective motions and the structural evolution of the Central-Northern Apennines
AbstractThe Central Apennines consist of a fold and thrust belt developed during Neogene, involving sedimentary successions of different paleogeographic domains. The geodynamic evolution of this sector was controlled by several important tectonic events, highlighted by numerous depositional sequences recognized in the Neogene marine successions. The time scanning of the stratigraphic events allowed to be reconstruct: the different stages of the eastward shifting of the chain-foredeep-foreland system; the deformation chronology; the more recent effects of the interactions between the regional uplift and extensional tectonics in the chain and the progressive eastward tilting of the Periadriatic sector. The Neogene foredeep and thrust top basins of the Central Apennines are filled by siliciclastic deposits from a Tyrrhenian crystalline area. The most important tectono- stratigraphy events developed during Messinian-Early Pliocene.
