TitleFenomeni di instabilità geologica connessi a piogge intense negli ultimi anni. Un caso di studio: strada statale 337 della Valle Vigezzo
AbstractThe analysis of the stability of landslides is a very important factor in the evaluation of risk in the construction of roads in an Alpine environment. In particular, it is important to analyse the stability of the side slopes facing the road and any sign of collapse that could take place. A study was carried out on National Road 337 in the Valle Vigezzo, which is a very important road for traffic between Italy and Switzerland. The road runs parallel to the river Melezzo Occidentale for most of its route and risks relating to the slope stability along the stream could add to the risk already inherent on the road. In fact existing slides along the river are not stabilized. This allows the slides to continue to feed alluvium and debris into the stream that can cause natural dams to form and if they are overflown during floods the effects are almost always disastrous. In order to study the problems relating to possible events, the road was divided into homogeneous sections based upon geological characteristics and the potential the problems that could occur. Geomechanical surveys were made in sections considered particularly dangerous. The Markland test was used to evalutate stability from a purely geometric point of view considering only the structural attitude between the slope and the discontinuities present, and the friction angle estimated in the literature for the type of rock. In this way it is possible to identify the discontinuities that could cause slippage, that is to say the discontinuities which are potential plan of slipping. Next we examined the safety factor for collapses caused by different conditions of rain and humidity and we evaluated which levels cause instability in different situations. We ran a statistical analysis of the rainfall of the area to assess both the incidence of extreme events on annual rainfall as well as the change in these patterns in recent years. Through the analysis of the times of return the probability that certain intense events trigger the unsafe erosive conditions in slopes object of study was determined.
