| Abstract | The genus Dinophysis is often responsible of mussel contaminations with DSP (Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning) toxins. The species Dinophysis rotundata, recenty recalled Phalacroma rotundatum for its heterotrophic metabolism similar to that of Phalacroma, is known to be a producer of okadaic acid. The population dunamics of this species have been studied during a year of cruises along the southern Adriatic coast of Apulian, related to algal biomass, primary nutrients and temperature. In thedse waters with marked ologotrophy, this alga is generally present in low quantities, in all the stations and depths examined, with winter quantities slightly higher than the summer ones. |
