IRSA CNR IRSA CNR IRSA_CNR In this work, the evaluation of the importance of the different parameters as well as soil type, soil moisture, and land use in the rainfall runoff processes and flood estimation has been evaluated. In this hydrological task, there are many categories of problems and uncertainties. The main questions are the choice of the modelling approach, the data availability, the interaction between the different environmetal factors. For all of these reasons, it is difficult to evaluate the importance of each parameter independently by the others involved in rainfall runoff processes. The research has been focused on using various methods for runoff computation in different study areas. With the help of hydrological models, several simulations of runoff changes by different basin conditions and different climate conditions have been carried out. SWAT model has been applied to the Candelaro river basin Italy and the SCS Curve Number procedure has been selected to calculate runoff. After calibration and validation the results of the simulations have been analyzed to evaluate the effects of soil types, land use and management practices on runoff. This model has been used also to investigate the spatial distribution of the water retention capacity of soil in the Mulde river basin Germany .
