IAMC UOS Taranto The Mar Piccolo of Taranto is a coastal semienclosed basin with lagoon features well studied from different points of view. The first observations on the phytobenthos date back to the beginning of the 20s. From the second half of 80s up to now, also within the framework of several research projects, the phytobenthic associations of the basin were periodically studied. As a result, 134 seaweeds 88 Rhodophyta, 18 Ochrophyta, 28 Chlorophyta and 2 spermatophyta Cymodocea nodosa and Ruppia cirrhosa were recorded. Since the basin is subject to high human pressure, mostly due to mussel farming, in the last years, the monitoring of the already present non indigenous species 9 and the research of possible new introductions are continuously performed. In spite of this, researches on the productivity of both seaweeds and phanerogams and on the distribution of phanerogam meadows are lacking. Il Mar Piccolo di Taranto e un bacino costiero con caratteristiche lagunari ben studiato sotto diversi aspetti. Le prime osservazioni sul fitobenthos risalgono agli inizi degli anni 20. A partire dalla seconda meta degli anni 80 sino ad oggi, sono stati condotti studi periodici sui popolamenti fitobentonici del bacino, anche nell ambito di diversi progetti di ricerca, e come risultato di tali studi sono state rinvenute 134 macroalghe 88 Rhodophyta, 18 Ochrophyta, 28 Chlorophyta e 2 fanerogame Cymodocea nodosa e Ruppia cirrhosa . Negli ultimi anni, in conseguenza dell elevata pressione antropica esercitata sul Mar Piccolo, sede di molte attivita, prima fra tutte la molluschicoltura, vengono continuamente condotti il monitoraggio delle specie non indigene presenti 9 e la ricerca di quelle di eventuale nuova introduzione. Ciononostante, mancano studi mirati alla conoscenza sia della produttivita delle macroalghe che delle fanerogame, nonche della distribuzione di queste ultime nel bacino.
