About me:

Marco is a researcher at the Italian National Research Council, where he holds a permanent position in the Water Research Institute. He earned a doctorate in Mathematics in 2012 and he obtained in 2023 the italian abilitation ASN for associate professor in numerical analysis. His research mainly focuses on mathematical models and related numerical methods for problems associated with porous media, in particular the Richards equation for the dynamics of the water content in the unsaturated zone: in this context, he worked on numerical solutions in heterogeneous soils, data assimilation, non-local models in time and space, root absorption modeling, and control problems for irrigation optimization. He has taken part in various international and national research projects, such as Horizon 2020, PRIN, PON (the latter two funded by Italian Ministry of University and Research). He is a member of the technical committee “Mathematical and Numerical Modeling of Porous Media in Subsurface Environments” in the scientific society IMACS; he is guest editor of the following journals: Engineering with Computers (Springer) and Mathematics and Computers in Simulations (Elsevier). He served a reviewer for several journals: Journal of Hydrology (Elsevier), Applied Numerical Mathematics (Elsevier), Vadose Zone Journal (SSSA), Advances in Water Rsources (Elsevier), Computational Geosciences (Springer), Journal of Hydrologic Engineering (ASCE), Water and Environment Journal (Wiley), Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment (Elsevier), International Journal on Geomathematics (Springer), Computational and Applied Mathematics (Springer), Computers and Geosciences (Elsevier), Ecohydrology (Wiley).
