It was established in 1968 as “Chemistry and Water Technology Department” of IRSA.
In 1971 it reached its current configuration, which spans over an area of 20,000 m², 4,000 of which are covered and divided into 5 buildings (namely, Main building with laboratories and offices, Pilot plants pavilion, Biomass valorisation lab, Hydrogeological lab, Multimedia room).
The headquarter has laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation and technology demonstrators. It has a multidisciplinary expertise in the management and protection of water resources, development of technologies for wastewater, sludge and biomass treatment and recovery, and characterization and remediation of contaminated sites. It has a strong inter-institutional collaboration both nationally and internationally.
